Environmental Processes
Corporate Express' commitment to the environment begins with our innovative packaging and recycling programs.
Packaging
Corporate Express shipping boxes are made from recycled materials (35 percent on average)
and we recycle all of our used corrugated material at our distribution centers.
Software in our distribution centers automatically selects the optimal size box or bag for
every product shipment to eliminate waste. Whenever possible, factory cartons are used for full
case shipments. Bags composed of 35 percent post-consumer recycled materials and envelopes are
used for small items. Use of bags in the shipping process increased over 5% in 2002 and we
continue to emphasize using less corrugated boxes and more bags in field operations.
Our decision to eliminate shrink-wrap from all of our packaging has resulted in a significant reduction in plastic waste. Any shrink-wrap that is used is made from recycled stock and is recyclable itself.
Stationery Products
All of our stationery products used for our business purposes are printed on recycled paper. This includes business cards, letterhead, envelopes and memo pads. The majority of Corporate Express marketing materials are also printed on recycled paper in an effort to support our environmental policy.
Corporate Express encourages its employees to adopt positive environmental practices in all of their everyday tasks. Recycling programs exist in our office locations to facilitate recycling by segregating desk waste into recyclable containers. We encourage the use of electronic commerce and communication to conserve paper. In our North American headquarters and distribution centers, we design the work ergonomically with an emphasis on environmentally sensitive specifications for lighting, heating, carpeting, airflow, and other design features.
Office and Computer Products Sourcebook
The Corporate Express Office and Computer Products Sourcebook, our primary office products catalog, is made from paper containing 10 percent recycled content.
